Mowing lawns, watering grass, raking leaves, pulling weeds – these are the common chores of home owners in Central Ohio.
For those who don’t have enough time or patience for yard work, creating a low-maintenance landscape may be the answer. A little investment now in time or money may save both later on.
Here are some ways to say goodbye to yard work.
Reduce your lawn area.If you want less mowing, watering, weeding, fertilizing and fussing about your lawn, why not reduce the grass area to a more manageable size? One option is building or extending a patio into the current lawn. Other options include ground covers, rock gardens and flower beds. Apply mulch. A layer of fresh mulch in the late spring, after the ground warms, will cut down on weeds and conserve water. In addition, mulch applied in late fall helps sensitive perennials survive a harsh winter, always possible in Ohio.
Plant drought-tolerant perennials. Some flowers need less fussing over than others. Cone flower and black-eyed Susans, for example, are native to Ohio and can handle a hot, dry summer with little or no attention. Why not choose native plants for the sunny spot in your landscape? Install irrigation. A good water system allows you to support the lawn and the flowers you love when rain is in short supply. Hennessy Landscaping does not provide this service, but you can find many good companies to assist you.
